Activities Director 

Pay Rate: $39-$42/HR
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 8:30am - 5pm

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, develop, implement, and coordinate a resident-centered activity program that caters to both group and individual therapeutic and recreational needs.
  • Encourage participation in activities among assisted living and dementia care residents.
  • Meet regularly with assisted living and dementia care staff to coordinate activities that meet individual needs and provide support to caregivers and activity coordinators.
  • Assess residents' interests and functions in activities, monitor changes, and communicate these to the social services coordinator or Resident Care Director.
  • Participate in weekly resident care plan meetings and assessments.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage the monthly activity calendar, ensuring a variety of physical, emotional, recreational, and spiritual activities are offered.
  • Develop relationships with community resources, adult education, internship programs, and volunteer sources for creative programming.
  • Interview new residents to determine their activity, recreational, and spiritual needs, and integrate these into the activity program.
  • Manage the activity program within budget constraints.
  • Arrange transportation for residents to places of worship, shopping, medical appointments, and social outings.
  • Work with the Spiritual Care and other departments to address the psycho-social needs of residents through activity programming.
  • Conduct or facilitate training programs to raise awareness of therapeutic activities and integrate them into residents’ daily routines.
  • Coordinate the purchasing and sales functions of the Community Country Store, maintain inventory, and balance monthly receipts.
  • Promote a safe environment within the community by focusing on fire and accident prevention and safety awareness.
  • Facilitate monthly resident activity committee meetings and implement recommendations.
  • Coordinate resident satisfaction surveys and respond appropriately to the results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in therapeutic activity (music, drama, art, recreation, or a related area) is preferred.
  • Experience in directly providing therapeutic activities in a long-term care setting.
  • Experience in developing therapeutic programs.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 8.
  • Current First Aid Certification.
  • Availability to work beyond normal business hours, on weekends, holidays, and in severe weather situations as necessary.
  • Sensitivity to working with older adults and knowledge of the aging process.
  • Ability to interact successfully with residents, volunteers, family, and staff.
  • Must exhibit initiative, energy, and creativity in developing programming to meet resident needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
